Chevy ZZ454/440 - A 440 horse BBC

Aluminum heads are the way to go for better performance. Starting with the awesome 454 HO, GMPP booted the 100 pound cast iron heads for better performing aluminum heads which flow more air and fuel. Those heads make 15 horsepower over the cast iron headed 454 HO. The included heads are oval port design with huge 2.25" intake and 1.88" exhaust valves and small combustion chambers for efficiency. Cylinder heads are sitting on a Gen IV four bolt block with a forged rotating assembly (crank, pistons and rods). A roller camshaft with lift numbers of .510 and.540". ZZ454/440 engines are assembled and almost ready to run when you get it. You add your starter, carb and ignition system.

Installation Notes

  • NOTE: Distributor with melonized steel gear MUST be used with engines with steel camshafts, or engine damage will occur. GMPP HEI distributor P/N 93440806 is recommended.
  • Requires addition of carburetor, starter, distributor and ignition system (not included).
  • Clutch linkage boss is cast into block, but must be drilled and tapped. When using cast iron exhaust manifolds, lower head bolts may need to be replaced with bolts with shorter heads, for clearance.
  • Comes with a 14" automatic transmission flexplate; use flywheel P/N 14096987 and 11" clutch assembly for manual transmission.
  • Intended for pre-1977 street vehicles or all off-road vehicles.
  • Not intended for marine applications.
